Parameter‐robust preconditioning for unsteady Stokes control problems

نویسندگان

چکیده

We propose a saddle-point preconditioner for an optimization problem constrained by the time-dependent Stokes equations, discretized using backward Euler method in time. The key ingredients are inner iteration (1, 1)-block, accelerated known heat control problem, and approximation of Schur complement involving commutator argument applied to block matrix. Numerical results demonstrate efficacy robustness this approach.

Robust Preconditioning for XFEM Applied to Time-Dependent Stokes Problems

We consider a quasi-stationary Stokes interface problem with a reaction term proportional to τ = 1/∆t ≥ 0 as obtained by a time discretization of a time-dependent Stokes problem. The mesh used for space discretization is not aligned with the interface. We use the P1 extended finite element space for the pressure approximation and the standard conforming P2 finite element space for the velocity ...

Preconditioning for modal discontinuous Galerkin methods for unsteady 3D Navier-Stokes equations

We compare different block preconditioners in the context of parallel time adaptive higher order implicit time integration using Jacobian-free Newton-Krylov (JFNK) solvers for discontinuous Galerkin (DG) discretizations of the three dimensional time dependent Navier-Stokes equations. A special emphasis of this work is the performance for a relative high number of processors, i.e. with a low num...

Optimal Control of the Unsteady Navier-Stokes Equations

1 2 A general method based on adjoint formulation is discussed for the optimal control of distributed parameter systems (including boundary parameter) which is especially suitable for large dimensional control problems. Strategies for efficient and robust implementation of the method are described. A set of consistency checks are proposed for the validation of the adjoint code. The method is ap...

Potential theory for initial-boundary value problems of unsteady Stokes flow in two dimensions

Integral equations have been of great theoretical importance for analyzing boundary value problems. There is a large amount of literature devoted to the classical potential theory and its applications on solving the boundary value problems of elliptic partial differential equations (see, for example, [5, 20, 23, 25, 26, 31, 32, 36, 37, 40]). For elliptic problems, integral equations have been c...

Preconditioning for Heterogeneous Problems

The main focus of this paper is to suggest a domain decomposition method for mixed finite element approximations of elliptic problems with anisotropic coefficients in domains. The theorems on traces of functions from Sobolev spaces play an important role in studying boundary value problems of partial differential equations. These theorems are commonly used for a priori estimates of the stabilit...
